1. About these terms
These Trust & Verification Terms ("these terms") are made by Weenja Technologies Uganda Limited ("Weenja", "we", "us"). They apply to everyone who uses the Trusted Growth Center: sellers (freelancers and service providers) who ask to be verified or recommended, schools, training centres, companies and employers who answer verification requests, and people who recommend a seller.
These terms add to the Weenja Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. If these terms and the general Terms and Conditions differ on a verification or recommendation matter, these terms apply to that matter.
By sending a verification request, answering one, or giving a recommendation, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Trusted Growth Center.
2. What the Trusted Growth Center is
The Trusted Growth Center helps sellers show clients that what they say about themselves is true. A seller can:
- ask the school, college, university or training centre where they studied to confirm their course;
- ask a company or employer they worked for to confirm their role;
- ask people who know their work (clients, workmates, trainers, friends or family) to recommend them.
When a request is confirmed, a badge can appear on the seller's Weenja profile. Recommendations appear in a "Recommended by" section. Weenja organises the requests, checks for misuse and shows the results. Weenja does not itself issue certificates or employment records.
3. Types of verification requests
From a school or training centre (academic)
The seller gives the name of the institution (chosen from our list or typed in), the course, the level (for example university, college, secondary, skilling, short certificate or apprenticeship), whether they are still studying, completed or are an alumnus, and the dates that fit that level: the finish year, the expected finish year, the finish month and length of training, or the finish date. For certificates that expire, the seller also gives the "valid until" date. The seller may add a registration number, campus and documents such as a certificate, transcript, admission letter or student ID.
From a company or employer
The seller gives the company name, their job title or role, the type of work (for example full time, contract or internship), the month and year they started and, unless they still work there, the month and year they left. They may add a contact person and documents such as an appointment or recommendation letter.
From a person
Any person who knows the seller can recommend them. See section 8.
If an institution or company is not yet on our list, Weenja first confirms its official contact details (for example its official email or phone number) before any request is sent. We never send a request to a private contact that we could not link to the institution or company. A request may take longer while we do this.
4. Your duty to be honest
If you are a seller, everything you submit must be true and complete, and every document must be genuine and unchanged. You must only name institutions, employers and contacts that are real and that actually know you.
You must not pressure, pay or trick anyone into confirming a request or giving a recommendation, and you must not recommend yourself, including through another account or phone number.
5. How institutions, employers and people answer
A person answering for an institution or employer ("approver") can:
- Approve - confirm that the details are correct;
- Decline - say that the details are not correct or cannot be confirmed;
- Ask for more information - for example a registration number or a clearer document; the seller can then reply;
- Revoke - withdraw an earlier approval later, for example if a record was wrong or an award was cancelled.
Approvers may add short one-tap remarks (for example "Completed with distinction", "Reliable and punctual" or "Would rehire"). Remarks must be fair, true and based on the institution's or employer's own records or experience. An approver may also decline without giving a reason.
Weenja records who answered, their role (for example "Registrar" or "HR Manager") and the time of the answer, so the answer can be checked later.
6. Badges and what is public
When a request is approved, a badge may be shown on the seller's public profile, gig pages and in search. A badge shows only:
- the seller's name as shown on Weenja (first name and @username) and profile photo;
- the institution or company name;
- the course or role;
- the relevant dates or year;
- any remarks the approver chose to add;
- the approver's role only (for example "Confirmed by the Registrar").
Documents are never shown publicly. The approver's name, email and phone number are never shown publicly. Registration numbers are never shown publicly.
Certificates that a seller uploaded themselves, without confirmation from the institution, are labelled "Self-uploaded · not verified".
7. How long badges last
| Badge | How long it lasts |
|---|---|
| Ongoing student | 12 months from approval, unless the institution confirms it again. After that the badge is removed or changes to the completed course once confirmed. |
| Certificate with an expiry (for example first aid or a safety permit) | Until the "valid until" date. After that it is shown as expired or removed. |
| Completed course, alumni, past job | Until it is revoked by the approver, removed by Weenja, or removed by the seller. |
| Current job | Until the employer or the seller says the job has ended, or it is revoked or removed. |
8. Recommendations from people
- Anyone may recommend anyone, including family and friends. The recommender says honestly how they know the seller: hired them on Weenja, hired them outside Weenja, worked together, trained or mentored them, friend, or family. This relationship is shown with the recommendation.
- "Hired on Weenja" is only shown when Weenja's records show a real order between the two people. Otherwise the recommendation is shown as "Hired outside Weenja".
- Confirmed phone number. Every recommender confirms their phone number with an SMS code or uses a Weenja account with a verified phone number. The phone number is never shown publicly.
- Once per person. Each person can recommend a seller once. They can change their own recommendation for 7 days after giving it. They may recommend as many different sellers as they wish.
- Weighting. Recommendations count differently depending on the relationship (a client who hired the seller on Weenja counts most; family counts least), and less for brand-new accounts or pairs who recommend each other. Unusual patterns (for example many recommendations from one device) are reviewed by Weenja.
- What is public: the recommender's first name (and @username if they have a Weenja account), the relationship, the skills they chose, their ratings, their comment, an optional photo of the work, and the date.
- Seller controls. The seller may hide a recommendation from their public profile. The seller cannot edit or delete what someone else wrote.
- Be fair and lawful. Recommendations must be honest and based on your own experience. Do not include phone numbers, emails, other people's personal information, or anything offensive, false or misleading. You must not accept payment or any reward for a recommendation.
9. Reporting a badge and disputes
Anyone can report a badge or recommendation they believe is false, unfair or unlawful ("report a badge") by writing to support@weenja.com with the seller's profile link and the reason. Institutions and employers can also revoke an approval directly.
While a report is checked, Weenja may pause (hide) the badge or recommendation. We may ask the seller, the approver or the recommender for information. We aim to decide within 14 days and will tell the people involved what we decided. If a seller disagrees with a decline or a removal, they can reply with more information; Weenja's decision after review is final for the display on Weenja, without affecting anyone's other legal rights.
10. Weenja's right to verify, pause or remove
To keep the Trusted Growth Center trustworthy, Weenja may at any time:
- check any request, document, contact, answer or recommendation, including by contacting the institution or employer through its official channels;
- refuse to send a request, or stop one that is in progress;
- pause, hide, change the weighting of or remove any badge or recommendation that we reasonably believe is false, unfair, obtained improperly, unlawful or in breach of these terms;
- limit or suspend access to the Trusted Growth Center, or take the account actions described in section 4.
11. No guarantee of skills
A badge only means that the named institution, employer or person confirmed the stated facts at that time. A recommendation is the personal opinion of the recommender. Neither is a guarantee by Weenja of a seller's skills, quality of work, licences or conduct. Clients should still use their own judgement, read reviews, agree the work clearly and pay through Weenja. To the extent the law allows, Weenja is not responsible for loss caused by relying on a badge or recommendation, or by incorrect information given by an institution, employer, recommender or seller.
12. Responsibilities of institutions and employers
When you answer a request for an institution or employer, you confirm that:
- you are authorised to answer for that institution or employer;
- your answer is based on its records or genuine experience, and you will correct or revoke it if it turns out to be wrong;
- you will use the seller's information and documents only to answer the request, keep them confidential, and not share them further;
- you will not ask the seller for payment to answer through Weenja, and you will treat requests fairly.
Weenja may remove an institution or employer from the directory, or stop sending it requests, if these responsibilities are not met.
13. Your personal data
Verification and recommendations use personal data, including documents, phone numbers and the details of institutions and employers. We only do this with your consent and as explained in the Privacy Notice: Verification & recommendations, in line with the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 of Uganda. You can withdraw your consent at any time, which stops future processing but does not undo what was already done lawfully.
If you are under 18 (for example a secondary school student), a parent or guardian must agree before you send a verification request.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add new features or when the law changes. Each version has a version number and date at the top of this page. If a change is important, we will tell you in the app or on the website and ask you to accept the new version before you send new requests or recommendations. Requests and recommendations made before a change stay under the version you accepted, unless the law requires otherwise.
